NBTSchools Board of Education Vacancies

  • Prospective school board candidates must obtain a “School Board Candidate Kit” online at www.njsba.org. Published by the New Jersey School Boards Association, the School Board Candidate Kit includes a nominating petition, information about legal qualifications for school board candidacy and the role of the school board member.  Information about the New Jersey School Ethics Act and important dates in the school election process are also included in the kit.
  • Candidates must file a nominating petition with the Middlesex County Clerk, Elaine Flynn at JFK Square, 4th Floor, New Brunswick, NJ  08903, in order to get their name on the ballot for the November 6, 2012 General Election.  The County Clerk’s email address is:   countyclerk@co.middlesex.nj.us.  The deadline to submit the nominating petition is 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012. 
Candidates must be a North Brunswick Township resident for at least a year.  Other qualifications are: 
  • Be able to read and write English
  • Hold U.S. citizenship and one year’s residency in the school district
  • Be registered to vote in the district before filing the nominating petition
  • Have no interest in any contract with, or claim against, the board
  • Not hold office as mayor or member of the municipal governing body
  • Not simultaneously hold two elective offices
  • Not be disqualified from membership for the conviction of certain crimes.  (Within 30 days of election or appointment to the board, a member must undergo a criminal history background investigation through the state Department of Education.)
