Summer reading promotes reading for pleasure, helps students develop into lifelong readers, and maintains students’ reading skills (Cornish, 2003). It is estimated that school summer breaks will cause the average student to lose up to one month of instruction. When kids read over the summer they are more likely to leap ahead when they return to school.
